The danger of the “Prosperity Gospel”

Here’s part 1 of a panel discussion that I recently took part in with the Pastoral staff of Good Shepherd Church.  The discussion was moderated by Chris Thayer and the panel consisted of Senior Pastor Talbot Davis, Pastor of Congregational Care (and soon-to-be Senior Pastor of Catawba UMC!) Rich Tuttle,  Pastor of Missions and Outreach Ron Dozier, and myself.

In the audio clip below, we discuss the popular, yet dangerous and unbiblical form of theology known as the “Prosperity” or “Health and Wealth” gospel.  This is a common form of folk-theology that has spread primarily through Christian TV and radio broadcasting and has gained a significant following particularly in developing countries as a result.

For more on this topic, be sure to check out my Examiner article “Was Jesus Rich??” as well.
