Introducing “Thayer Thursdays” in the Dojo!
Hey gang,
I wanted to let everyone know about a new feature that we’re going to be doing here at Disciple Dojo.
I’ve invited my friend (and successor!), Chris Thayer, to be a contributor each week. Chris is a gifted Bible teacher and has a heart for helping people go deeper in community, both with one another, as well as with God–particularly through the study of Scripture.
I had the pleasure of teaching alongside Chris and our Pastor, Talbot Davis, last year during my trip to India (which you can read about HERE if you missed it) and wanted to find a way to partner more with him and Good Shepherd here at Disciple Dojo.
Each week, Chris puts together a reflection based on Scripture from the Sunday message and sends it to Good Shepherd’s Life Group leaders for use in their small group discussions. They are really good and I thought that it was a shame that more people can’t have access to these “Thayer’s Thoughts.” So I asked Chris if he’d be willing to share them here on the Dojo blog each week, along with a link to audio of the message they accompany, and he graciously agreed.
I also asked him to give me a quick blurb about himself to introduce him to Dojo readers.
Here’s that introduction.
Hello all! My name is Chris Thayer. I’m the Director of Discipleship for Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. I get to work with our LifeGroup and teaching ministries here. One of the ways I try to help our leaders is by giving a short teaching on the passage of scripture that Talbot Davis, our head pastor, is teaching on. This weekly write-up is titled “Thayer’s Thoughts.” Sometimes there’s a heavy correlation between the sermon and the thoughts and sometimes I’ll key in on something that’s misunderstood or a cool little gem that might not be brought up in the sermon. Either way, I’m a sucker for context. One of my main passions as a Bible teacher is to help people understand the context of a passage of scripture, and see how that can (sometimes drastically) alter our understanding and application of what we read. I hope you find them beneficial and I look forward to hearing your “Thoughts” too!
God bless,
Chris Thayer
Stay tuned tomorrow for the first “Thayer Thursday”!
