I don’t play partisan politics…which is why I’m voting for Ron Paul (again)

[Note: This entry reflects my own personal opinion. Disciple Dojo as a whole does not officially endorse any political candidates. Christians are free to disagree on political issues and this post is meant simply to encourage thoughtful discussion. -JM]

Those of you who have known me for years know that I am politically independent and don’t openly support political candidates or parties.

Except one.

Over the past 3 years I have come to realize that there is only one politician who, even if I differ with him on an issue or two, demands my respect and deserves my vote.

Ron Paul.

Rather than disparage other candidates, let me just say that I believe Paul is the only candidate running for president in this election cycle (as well as the last!) who truly represents the majority of Americans.

So why haven’t you heard more about him in the media?

Simple. He doesn’t polarize people!

He’s not a Right- or Left-wing talking head candidate.

He’s not afraid to go against his own party when they are wrong (which they are many times VERY wrong!).

He’s not afraid to sit and discuss at length the actual issues rather than media talking points–something that doesn’t bode well for networks that thrive on sound-bytes and short attention spans.

Here is a video of Ron Paul sitting down and discussing, issue by issue, his position with a group of quite liberal interviewers. Have you ever seen ANY candidate do this…and do it so eloquently, rationally, good-naturedly (despite attempts to rile him up!) and with such BALANCE??

I have not…ever.

Take a look…

(Note: the video is just over an hour long–but WELL WORTH IT! The first 20 mins is on financial/economic issues. After that he discusses foreign policy, militarism, and a number of other issues including his stance on the death penalty–which may surprise you!)

Have YOU ever seen a Presidential candidate who handled himself with so much balance, poise, intelligence and moderate common sense?? We NEED more statesmen like this if we are ever to break the cycle of polarizing partisan nonsense that has brought our country to its knees.

I believe Ron Paul should be the next President of this country. He’s not some crazy nut (as some in the media on both political sides have dismissed him as!), he’s a man of political integrity and consistency…something we’ve needed for the past few decades and something neither political party has delivered!

If you are a Republican, I URGE YOU to consider voting for Ron Paul in the primary. The primary is the REAL election, as it determines who we are forced to choose between next year.

If you are a Democrat or Independent, I URGE YOU to consider changing your affiliation temporarily in order to vote in the Republican Primary for Ron Paul. You won’t be alone. Many Democrats and Independents who voted for President Obama only to realize that he’s not actually bringing much “change” or “hope”, despite his (I assume) well-intentioned efforts, are becoming “Blue Republicans” this election season and supporting Ron Paul.

And if, for whatever reason, Conservatives in this country again choose a candidate who is polarizing, pro-militarism, pro-corporation, pro-partisan-politics…what should we do?

I can’t answer that for anyone else, but I’ll simply write in Ron Paul as my vote for President…

…again.

Blessings from the Dojo,

JM

  4. I love having him in the debates and think he brings a style like you mention that is missing where its not just about the sound bites. I love that he disagrees with his own party often and calls them out. I wish more republicans and democrats would do the same.

I don’t agree with him on several issues, but feel of any politician out there that I don’t agree with on many things, I could live with his decisions more so than others. With him you at least know what you are getting because he is so consistent.

There is a reason he rarely is made fun of on the Daily Show, he is hard to catch saying one thing and doing another.

  5. I totally agree, Russ. I don’t agree with every position RP takes, but his consistency and his desire to be as faithful to the purpose of Government as laid out in the Constitution is what makes him stand out head and shoulders above the rest in Washington.

Also, when a candidate is genuinely admired by as varied a group as Jon Stewart, Chuck Norris, Bill Maher, Vince Vaughn, Joe Rogan and Penn Gillette, people should recognize that this is not a “fringe” candidate by any means.
