Dojo Dialogue with a Jewish friend coming soon!

Hi readers,

For those of you that have followed it, I’ve been having a good conversation with my friend Jacob regarding the purpose of the Torah in the lives of followers of Jesus. (You can read our discussion in the comments section at the bottom of THIS post to catch up!) Jacob is a Jewish follower of Jesus and a good friend of mine who I respect, even when we disagree on an issue or two.

Rather than continuing the dialogue in the comments section of a past blog, I have invited Jacob to respond with a series of guest posts here in the Dojo, to which I will then respond in turn. Jacob happily agreed and will be preparing his post after Shabbat.

Also, just a heads-up…Since I’m dialoging with a Jewish friend, whenever possible I will most likely be referring to various topics, persons and books by their Hebrew/Jewish terminology (i.e. “Yeshua” instead of “Jesus”; “Messiah” instead of “Christ”; “Hebrew Scriptures” instead of “Old Testament”, etc.). I choose to do this both out of respect to my Jewish readers, as well as out of a desire to reclaim the thoroughly Jewish nature of the Gospel which many Christians have unfortunately jettisoned throughout the history of the Church.

As many of you know, I started Disciple Dojo, in part, as a place where people could engage in theological/biblical/ethical “sparring” in a safe and edifying way. That’s why I welcome voices like Jacob’s. I believe such discussions sharpen those who are involved and benefit the larger body of readers.

So stay tuned and if you haven’t already, be sure to “like” Disciple Dojo on Facebook and/or follow me on Twitter to stay informed of new posts!

Blessings from the Dojo,

JM

ps: If you haven’t seen the video presentation “Once Upon a Time” in which I discuss the overall story, purpose and function of the Hebrew Bible, which Jacob is primarily responding to, it is available to view for FREE over on my Video Resource page or on Disciple Dojo’s Youtube Channel.
