Weekly Dojo Dialogues
Hi readers,
Below you will find a sampling of some of the things that I’ve come across and been discussing on social media the past few days. I know not everyone who reads the Dojo blog is on Facebook or Twitter, so I thought it would be good to do a semi-weekly roundup of all the disparate topics here in one place.
My friend (and Senior Pastor) Talbot Davis reaches out to progressive/liberal Christians to help him understand why they support monogamy.
Another of my friends, Dr. Michael Brown wonders if popular author Rachel Held Evans has capitulated to cultural pressures when it comes to comparing same-sex marriage to women in ministry.
Kirsten Powers offers a strong and beautiful debunking of the notion that Wendy Davis’ filibuster against a TX law that would prohibit abortion after 20 weeks represents women in general. I could not agree with Powers more, and created this graphic to illustrate the point (which I encourage readers to share, tweet, or post on their Facebook timelines):
Olatunde Howard discusses the crucial notion of saying what we feel.
Egypt remains in a period of major transition and unrest and needs prayer more than ever.
Israeli authorities finally use the correct label for “price tag” attacks by settlers against Palestinian civilians: Terrorism.
A famous porn star experiences the transformation of knowing Jesus and leaves the industry.
My friend Frank Edge continues to battle testicular cancer and needs our support, prayers and encouragement. Send him a note at www.facebook.com/franksfight and donate directly at his Youcaring page.
A pastor demonstrates how NOT to preach…by openly and unapologetically ridiculing and personally insulting members of the congregation one by one (often for “missing church”):
One of my former professors, Jim White, offers 1o signs that a church is focused more on a superstar Pastor than on the Gospel.
Christianity Today once again shows why it is the flagship publication for solid, balanced. evangelical critical thinking with this article about the current LGBT cultural debate and how Christians should engage it.
And lastly, UFC Middleweight Chris Weidman (who is fighting the best mixed martial artist in the world right now, Anderson Silva, this weekend for the title) took time out of his ridiculously busy pre-fight schedule to sign the portrait I did of him to raise funds for my friend Kristen’s new nonprofit Live To Fight, Inc.
That’s it for this week! Have a wonderful holiday weekend and keep on sharpening one another!
JM
