“Man, this guy’s really strong for a little skinny guy!” was the remark Chris made about TC…which totally made his day (and which he made sure to capture on film later! Haha!)”
“The teachers for the seminar would be Chris Weidman, UFC Lightweight contender Jim Miller (whose brother and fellow UFC fighter Dan Miller was also there), and the grappling Yoda himself, John Danaher. There would also be a surprise guest…who wasn’t too keen on all this no-gi stuff, and would have some words for Mr. Weidman before the day was over!”
“Today over on the Underground (a leading MMA website), my friend, and former UFC Heavyweight fighter, Justin “The Viking” Wren, responded to a particular critic with one of the most amazing series of posts I’ve ever come across on an MMA message board.”
Dojo readers, Early this morning our friend Frank Edge finally succumbed to the cancer that he had been battling for the past few years. His wife Wendy shared the news on Facebook this morning and my heart sank as I read it. I knew Frank only through our online friendship over on the Underground, but […]
“I know not everyone who reads the Dojo blog is on Facebook or Twitter, so I thought it would be good to do a semi-weekly roundup of all the disparate topics here in one place.”
“There is so much nonsense on Christian airwaves that claims to be effectively teaching and equipping people to understand God’s word. From the “Prosperity Preachers” to the “Prophecy Experts”, there is no lack of people publicly claiming the role of authoritative teacher when it comes to the things of God.
They are often no less embarrassing to legitimate Biblical scholars, preachers and teachers than the “martial arts masters” above are to legitimate martial arts instructors.”
“I asked Frank’s wife, Wendy, to write about the experience so I could share it with Dojo readers. Here is her account of the weekend…”
“However, comparing modern combat sports to the Roman Colosseum–while often employed by fans and critics alike, for totally opposite reasons–belittles the actual horrors of an Empire forcing convicts and captives to literally kill one another for the amusement of bloodthirsty crowds. Such a comparison all too common (and the UFC itself did nothing to distance itself from with their “Gladiator” intro clip which began every PPV up until their recent TV deal with Fox).”
A number of Invicta fighters have been supportive of #FranksFight as well. One of them, who I’ve had the pleasure of talking with via her Facebook page, is Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres who fights out of ATT in FL. Tecia was named one of the top 20 WMMA athletes of 2012 and is a rising star with championship potential. When I asked Tecia if she’d be interested in doing a charity portrait she readily agreed!
“This is a great question that many, many martial artists have addressed in much more detail; I’m not claiming to be the expert by any means. However, with 28 years of martial arts experience in a number of different styles and disciplines, I think I can give some helpful pointers to people who may be asking this question.”
