Bonhoeffer quotes

I’m currently reading Eric Metaxas‘ biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer entitled “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Prophet, Martyr, Spy” and it’s excellent.

My Dad bought both me and himself a copy and I started reading it yesterday. I’ll try to periodically post some good quotes from it as I come across them.

Here’s one from a sermon he preached to a youth group in Barcelona when he was a student pastor there between WWI and WWII:

Christianity conceals within itself a germ hostile to the church. It is far too easy for us to base our claims to God on our own Christian religiosity and our church commitment, and in so doing utterly to misunderstand and distort the Christian idea.”  (p.84)
