Frank Alvin Gotch (1878 – 1917) American professional wrestler who was the first American to win the world heavyweight free-style championship, and helped popularize professional wrestling in the US. He competed back when wrestling–often called “Catch Wrestling”–was a real sport rather than prefabricated entertainment. He was one of the most popular athletes in America from the 1900s to the 1910s.
