Carlos Gracie is the founder of what would become Gracie Jiujitsu. Though not as well known in the US as his brother Helio, it was Carlos who first trained under Mitsuyo Maeda (aka. “Count Koma”) and is considered the true patriarch of the legendary Gracie family.
